COVID 19 : WILL THERE BE MCO 2.0??

Hello and Assalamualaikum,

As at the date I am writing this entry, the total number of Covid-19 cases in Malaysia has reached 12,813 cases with 137 deaths. The recent significant increase of the cases have given quite a scare to all Malaysians as we all have started living our daily lives as usual with the SOPs. Malls have gradually been crowded since MCO ended on June 9th, 2020. Many have been travelling for holidays, visiting friends and families, and even ceremonies were carried out with hundreds of guests attended; given that the SOPs are complied.

Below are the statistics as given out by our Ministry of Health for the past 5 days.

1st October 2020 : 260 new cases

2nd October 2020 : 287 new cases

3rd October 2020: 317 new cases, 1 new death

4th October 2020: 293 new cases

5th October 2020: 432 new cases

From the above, we can see the gradual increase of cases that jumped from 200s to 400s cases PER DAY in less than a week.

I do believe that during the period of June until August 2020, Malaysians were being careful in conducting their lives and maybe some did let their guards down a little, since the statistics remain at a low figure; a single digit or a low volume two digits within the span of 3 months.

However, the statistics rose extremely high starting October 2020 onwards. I am not pointing fingers to whom this shall be made accountable, but honestly I felt highly disappointed to what had caused the second wave of Covid 19 in Malaysia. We WERE winning. And suddenly we’re NOT.

So the battle begins AGAIN.

The earlier MCO on 18 March 2020 were implemented to stop the spreading of the virus that had our statistics increased by 100s in two days straights. But today, 432 cases were reported and yet no MCO has been announced.

Will there be MCO on the second wave?

Can we fight this disease without MCO?

I believed that MCO is a good way to monitor the spreading, however, I admit, another MCO is not healthy to our economy. We were just about to pick up what we had left months ago, and a new recovery should be on its ways rather than have everything put on paused button again.

I have huge sympathy towards those affected financially since the arrival of the outbreak. Many businesses were closed down, thousands had lost their jobs, salaries were cut down, increments and bonuses are not in sight, and those who earns on daily basis, they may have not earn anything at all during MCO. Hence, they suffered the most. Teachers and lecturers have to start online teaching, and there are students having trouble focusing during online classes. Working from home is no joke, many had a difficult time doing work at home while the kids were around. Some even have internet problem hence, they are unable to work as efficiently as being in the office.

I respected those who managed to earn extra money with their extra effort during this pandemic. Some learnt arts and selling their crafts online, some uses YouTube as a platform to earn money, and some joined as riders for food delivery. I have been thinking much about what can I do as a housewife to earn extra money during this period and honestly, I can’t find any. And even if someone gave me an idea, I have no idea how can I find the time.

Covid 19 is not only affecting us financially but also in many other aspects. Prolong financial distress can lead to emotional distress. One could have issues providing money for the family hence resulting in depression or involving in crime. What bothers me the most that during MCO, there was a rise on domestic abuse cases that were reported to Woman Aids Organization (WAO). According to them via Sinar Harian, there have been a rise of cases up to 3.6 times in April compared to February 2020. And not to mention sexual abuse on women and children during this period. The abusers were sadly to be those who were staying at home with them and during MCO, victims have no place to hide/ run.

Apart from that, many have been affected emotionally as they were far away from their family, worrying about their loved ones who are in another state, and scared of those staying in hospitals and unable to visit. These loneliness might lead to depression.

This pandemic have cause a lot of things to be reconsidered or just simply cancelled such as holidays and public examinations. Even weddings are being done online.

Today, I had the opportunity to ask my children about COVID 19 just to see their understandings on this matter. They were just kids, but I pray hard for a better future for them. Here, I attached the video link which I have recorded of my children answering some questions about Covid 19.

2020 has been a difficult time for the world. But we are in this together. And together we will fight this pandemic. Let’s put a stop to it shall we!

We can do this MALAYSIANS!

Toodles!

Love,
